Description

Bauxite (bauxite ore) refers to a collective term for minerals that can be utilized in industry, mainly composed of gibbsite, boehmite, or diaspore. It is a non renewable resource. Pure bauxite is white in color and can appear light gray, light green, or light red due to different impurities. Bauxite has a wide range of industrial applications. On the one hand, it is the main raw material for producing alumina, which in turn produces aluminum. On the other hand, it is widely used as a raw material in industries such as refractory materials, fused corundum, grinding materials, ceramic products, chemical products, and high alumina slurry.

Calcined bauxite contains hydrated alumina and aluminum hydroxide, obtained by calcining high-quality bauxite at high temperatures (85°C to 1600°C) in a rotary kiln. It is one of the main raw materials for producing aluminum. Compared with the original bauxite, after removing moisture through calcination, the alumina content of the calcined bauxite can be increased from about 57% to 58% of the original bauxite to 84% to 88%.

Applications

  1. Aluminum industry: bauxite has high aluminum content and is an important raw material for aluminum smelting industry;
    2. Precision casting: bauxite can be made into various types of casting mold after processing, mainly used in communication, instrumentation, machinery and equipment industries;
    3. Refractory material: bauxite has good properties such as low thermal expansion, high refractoriness, and high temperature volume stability, making it a common raw material for refractory materials. Refractory materials made of it are widely used in steel, non-ferrous metallurgy, petroleum, chemical and other industrial fields.
    4. Building materials: bauxite powder can improve the strength and hardness of materials such as cement, mortar, and concrete, while also enhancing their durability and corrosion resistance.
