Description
Bauxite (bauxite ore) refers to a collective term for minerals that can be utilized in industry, mainly composed of gibbsite, boehmite, or diaspore. It is a non renewable resource. Pure bauxite is white in color and can appear light gray, light green, or light red due to different impurities. Bauxite has a wide range of industrial applications. On the one hand, it is the main raw material for producing alumina, which in turn produces aluminum. On the other hand, it is widely used as a raw material in industries such as refractory materials, fused corundum, grinding materials, ceramic products, chemical products, and high alumina slurry.
Calcined bauxite contains hydrated alumina and aluminum hydroxide, obtained by calcining high-quality bauxite at high temperatures (85°C to 1600°C) in a rotary kiln. It is one of the main raw materials for producing aluminum. Compared with the original bauxite, after removing moisture through calcination, the alumina content of the calcined bauxite can be increased from about 57% to 58% of the original bauxite to 84% to 88%.
